C., SATURDAY, MAY 30, 1942 COMMENCEMENT FINALS The Tryon high school commen cement exercises came to a close on Friday evening at the school auidtorium. The commencement i^dress was delivered by Editor ll O. Nafe of Marion who ve as the keynote of his mes sage to the graduates, the impor tance of observing and not just seeing things. He gave several illustrations of young people mak ing a success in life just by ob serving simple needs anj doing something to fill the need. He also urged them to prepare them selves for leadership after the war, and advised them to get in terested in politics and civic af iairs now. The excellent valedictory ad dress by Miss Evelyne Taylor Tanner and the salutatory address by Miss Evelyn Cromer were well delivered. Nelson Jackson, Jr., chairman of the school board delivered diplomas to 20 graduates and ex pressed his pride in the work of school and the community. ^Superintendent M. B. Caldwell presided over the exercises, Dr. George Farranr] Taylor gave the invocation. Seth M. Vining intro duced the speaker. The seniors sang their Alma Mater song and Mrs. Walter Jones played the ac companiment on the piano. NUTRITION MEMBERS All members of the nutritian class are requester to bring note books and pencils. The class will be held twice a week on Tues days and Thursdays at 3:30 at the Parish House beginning on June 2nd. Call Mrs. Robert Ers kine for information and regis tration. At the Churches Visitors Welcome at All Services. CONGREGATIONAL: Erskine Memorial. Rev. C. Arthur Lincoln, D. D., Minister. 11 a. m., morn ing worship. Memorial Day ser mon: “The Vital Factor in Na tional Life.” 9:45 a. m., Sunday school, Nelson Jackson, Jr., Supt. Audiphones in auditorium for those desiring them. Wednesday 6:30 p. m., meeting of Young People’s group at the Avant cottage on Lake Lanier. Transportation furn ished for those asking for it. FIRST BAPTIST: Rev. B. G. Henry, Minister. Sunday school 10 a. m., J. T. Arledge, Supt. Worship service 11 a. m., subject, “Climbing Out of the Pit.” Pray er meeting and choir practice on Wednesday evening. Brotherhood meets on Friday of this week at i p. m. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE: 11 a. m., at the Lanier Library. Subject, “Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced.” METHODIST: Rev. R. W. Blanchard, Minister. Morning wor ship at 11 a. m., sermon subject, “A Test For God.” On June 14, minister will take a class into church membership and baptize children. The Holy Communion will be administered at that time. Evening service ' resumed this week. Subject “God and Hens.” PRESBYTERIAN: Rev. D. M. McGeachy, Mnister.
